Step one: identify your plan type

Standing offers in NSW, SEQ and SA should reset toward DMO caps automatically. Market contracts can already beat or lag benchmarks depending on when you last renewed. Pull your late May or June retailer notice and compare effective rates per kWh and daily supply charge.

If you can’t tell plan type from the bill, call the retailer before changing vend prices.

Step two: compare flat vs time-of-use

AER data shows residential TOU savings even where SA flat rates rose 1.4%. Small business TOU reductions reached double digits in several NSW zones. Laundromats running dryers midday can benefit from TOU if shoulder rates beat flat bundles.

Step three: measure before marketing cuts

Log kWh per machine hour for one week post-1 July. Leaks, failing dampers and open bay doors can erase tariff wins. Maintenance deferred in June EOFY crunch commonly surfaces as July bill shock.

Find peer operators on the directory but verify offers independently.

Step four: revisit sub-metering

Without per-machine readings, a TOU switch can look cheaper on paper while peak dryer use erases savings. Log one week of interval data from your retailer or landlord before signing a new plan.
