Orange Sky Approaches 12 Years: Where to Find Free Laundry
Orange Sky reaches the 12-year anniversary of its Australian launch on 10 October 2026. For someone who needs clean clothes now, the useful place to start is its current service finder: free laundry is delivered through particular locations and shifts, rather than an always-open national shop network.

A milestone built around access to washing
Orange Sky’s official history dates its launch to World Homeless Day, 10 October 2014. Founders Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett began with a van fitted with washing machines and dryers. The organisation’s work combines laundry access with a place for conversation and connection.
The history also records a School Laundry Program launched in February 2026, providing washing machines and dryers on school grounds. That does not mean a school installation is a public walk-in laundromat. The anniversary is reported here as a milestone, not as an announcement of an open day, special shift or event.
Use the current service finder
The Orange Sky location finder allows people to look for nearby services. Check the individual location and available shift details before travelling. If an old article gives a venue or time, verify it against the current listing rather than assuming the schedule remains the same.
For example, Orange Sky’s Nitjpurru service page records a June 2026 launch and describes a service operated by local employees in partnership with Katherine West Health Board. Different locations have different arrangements. A page describing laundry doesn’t establish that showers or every other service will be available at that stop.
Check what you need before making the trip
Identify the location, day and time first. If you are helping someone else, share those details clearly rather than just forwarding a national homepage. Ask the service directly about anything the listing doesn’t explain, including the items it can accept or an access requirement that affects the visit.
If a commercial laundromat is appropriate instead, our laundry directory lists local options and the cost guide explains how to plan for washing and drying. Orange Sky’s free community service is a separate option for people experiencing homelessness or hardship. More dated service updates are in laundry news.
